Meet Bonnie Ball and the Ball Family Farm Story
A family of 11 children, 19 grandchildren, and a love for animals that became Oregon's most trusted Sphynx cattery.
A Family Built on Love for Animals
Bonnie Ball has spent her life building something rare: a family where love is the foundation of everything. After raising 11 children and welcoming 19 grandchildren into the world, Bonnie and her family entered a new chapter — one with more time, more space, and a deep desire to create something meaningful together as a family.
Ball Family Farm began not as a business plan but as a natural extension of who the Ball family has always been. Animals have always been part of their home, their identity, and their joy. When Sphynx cats entered their lives, the connection was immediate and profound. The breed's affectionate, people-oriented nature felt like a perfect match for a family that has always been oriented around human connection.
What makes Ball Family Farm different from every other Sphynx cattery you'll find is the environment our kittens are raised in. These aren't cats kept in a separate cattery space, socialized on a schedule. They're raised in Bonnie's home — surrounded by grandchildren doing homework, family gatherings, dogs wandering the halls, and the beautiful, loving chaos of a large family. By the time our kittens go home with their new families, they've already learned to thrive in exactly that kind of environment.
Bonnie oversees every aspect of our breeding program personally. She knows every queen by temperament and history, attends every birth, monitors every kitten's development, and personally evaluates every family before placement. The Ball family's multigenerational involvement means our program benefits from the patience and wisdom of parents who've raised children — which translates directly into kittens that are confident, emotionally secure, and genuinely ready for their forever homes.

Our Breeding Philosophy
Health comes first. Every breeding decision at Ball Family Farm begins with a question: is this pairing in the best interest of the kittens that will result? We maintain annual HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) cardiac screenings on all breeding cats and run comprehensive genetic panels to identify heritable conditions before they can be passed on.
Temperament is next. Sphynx cats are famously dog-like in their personality — social, communicative, and deeply bonded to their human families. We select for these traits deliberately, pairing cats whose personalities we know well and whose offspring consistently demonstrate the confident, affectionate character that makes the breed extraordinary.
Finally, socialization. We believe the critical window for socialization in kittens is a gift that no breeder should squander. Our kittens are handled from their first days, exposed to every kind of household sound and activity, and introduced to children, dogs, and other cats before they ever leave our home. The result is a kitten ready to bond immediately — not one that needs weeks of adjustment.
